0

In a recent development at the United Nations General Assembly, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have made statements regarding the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir issue, further complicating diplomatic relations in the region.

Saudi Arabia’s Stance:

During a meeting organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, expressed support for the Muslim population of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that Saudi Arabia stands with regions facing conflict and unrest, including Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, the minister offered Saudi Arabia’s mediation in resolving the issue, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the Islamic identity and dignity of the Muslim people. He warned that the Jammu and Kashmir issue poses a serious challenge to the security and stability of the region and urged for its resolution to prevent further instability.

India has consistently maintained its stance of not accepting third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, emphasizing its preference for bilateral discussions with Pakistan.

Turkey’s Position:

In his address during the general debate at the United Nations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of restoring a just and lasting peace in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan. Erdogan’s statement aligns with Turkey’s previous remarks on the issue. It’s worth noting that this statement comes after Erdogan’s recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G-20 summit in New Delhi, where both leaders discussed strengthening trade and infrastructure relations.

Turkey has a history of raising the Jammu and Kashmir issue at international forums, which India has previously criticized as unacceptable interference in its internal affairs. Despite these remarks, Turkey’s willingness to bolster economic ties with India suggests a multifaceted approach to its relationship with the country.

While these statements by Saudi Arabia and Turkey reflect their geopolitical considerations and solidarity with the Muslim population in Jammu and Kashmir, India remains firm in its position of seeking a resolution through direct bilateral talks with Pakistan. The evolving dynamics in the region will require careful navigation to maintain stability and peace.
